Please join us on May 10, 2018 for our first ever MAD Science Night. The night will be a fun-filled evening of learning for students and their families.
We are super excited about our upcoming Mad Science Family Night! The event will take place on Thursday, May 10th, 2018. The evening will be full of fun scientific explorations and learning. As well, some of our learning projects that students have created this year will be on display. School doors will open at 6:00. We will have a FREE Family Science Night Photo Booth so that students and their families can take a special keepsake photo home with them. We will also be selling $2.00 snacks all evening including popcorn, cotton candy and snow cones.
The evening will be organized as follows:
MAD Science Special Event Show – UP, UP AND AWAY! 6:30 – 7:15 pm
This is a spectacular science-themed show designed to amaze and entertain our students and their families! This spellbinding show introduces children to the principles of air pressure and illustrates how it affects the world around them. The Mad Scientist will make a hot air balloon out of a dry cleaning bag, create giant smoke rings, a Dinosaur Sneeze and demonstrate how pressure can be used to create special effects in the movies. Our grand finale will thrill everyone as an audience member experiences the wondrous and floating powers of a Mad Science Hovercraft!
MAD Science Fun Stations 7:30 – 8:30 pm
We will have Science Fun Stations set up around the gym for our students and guests to explore including:
“Slime” where children will learn the basics of polymer construction and molecular bonding while making their own ooey, gooey Mad Science Slime to take home. Watch as your children concoct a mixture that will transform from a runny liquid to slippery slime before their very eyes.
“Mad Science Putty”: our San Marco scientists will create a chemical reaction by mixing three liquid ingredients and finishing with stretchy Mad Science Putty to take home while learning some of the basics of polymers and molecular bonding.
“Dry Ice”: Your family will explore the three states of matter and learn about the exciting change known as sublimation. Our Mad Scientists will concoct bubbling potions, colour changing mixtures, and grandiose fog effects with Dry Ice. Each participant will make ‘ Mad Science snow’ to bring home with them.
“Super-balls”: Toys are science too! Students will explore the science of motion and hear how some of their favourite toys work. At this booth students can make their very own bouncy ball to bring home with them!
“UV Beads”: Although we are often aware of the dangers of UV light, we may not know how little UV light can cause skin damage. Students can make their own UV detector key chain at this booth, and will learn when they must protect their skin.
“Feel the Pressure”: Students will feel the pressure as they mash marshmallows, rescue a diver, and participate in our pressure mat challenge. Our crazy Mad Scientist will demonstrate Bernoulli’s principle and students will experience it first hand as they make their own Mist Maker to take home.
We hope to see you there!
