Although we will not be hosting our much loved CSC Dance-a-thon Dance Fundraiser this school year, I would like to encourage both our Face -to- Face and Remote students of San Marco to wear a Halloween costume on Friday October 30th along with their PPE masks, as per Public Health and the York Catholic District School Board’s expectations. Halloween masks are not permitted in place of appropriate PPE. Face painting can be used along with PPE. Students are also reminded that all costumes are expected to be appropriate for a Catholic elementary school.
Costumes
Students are asked to please choose costumes that are NOT violent in nature and are tasteful. Please leave all costume accessories such as canes, broomsticks, or replicas of weapons (e.g. plastic swords, knives, etc.) at home. Children are asked not to wear full head masks for safety reasons. We ask students to refrain from using costumes that represent a cultural group or ethnicity, as culture is not a costume. Also, we ask that you please be aware of the appropriateness of costumes and ensure that they reflect the moral tone of our Catholic schools and are not frightening in nature for our younger learners (e.g. no scary clown costumes please). Students who do not follow these costume parameters will be asked to remove their costume and change into their regular standardized dress wear.
Anaphylaxis Policy – Reminders
Parents are reminded of our Anaphylaxis Policy whereby the sharing of food items is not allowed. Please do not send in edible Halloween treats for your child’s classmates, especially given the pandemic. In accordance with our Allergy Awareness Plan, any such edible treats will not be distributed, but rather returned home with the student at the end of the day.
Our San Marco staff is planning various in class activities for Halloween, so that all of our ghosts and goblins will have a “spooktacular” day! We’ve also planned a school-wide “Halloween Bingo”.
As a school community, we realize that many of our usual events which students look forward to may be cancelled or amended due to the pandemic. However, our hope, as always, is to engage students in their learning, reinforce a strong sense of community as well as have some fun while staying safe.
Thank you once again for assisting us in providing a safe and fun filled day for all!
Happy Halloween to all!
